Biography
Professor Chen obtained his B.S. degrees in computer science and mathematics in 1985 from the University of San Francisco, California. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science in 1988 and 1992, respectively, from Purdue University. He joined the faculty at the University of Notre Dame in 1992. He was the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the University of Notre Dame Kaneb Teaching Award. Professor Chen is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Professor Chen is the author of over 150 publications and has given many invited talks on his research in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Research Interests
Professor Chen's research interests center on algorithm design, analysis and implementation, computational geometry, parallel and distributed computing, computational medicine, data mining, robotics, VLSI design, and computer graphics. He has developed many efficient sequential and parallel algorithms for solving fundamental geometric, graphic, and combinatorial problems.
