Biography
Dr. Suckow obtained his B.S. degree in zoology in 1981 from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He was a veterinary intern at the New England Regional Primate Research Center at Harvard Medical School, receiving his D.V.M. in 1987 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. From 1987 to 1990, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan. Subsequently, Dr. Suckow moved to Purdue University as a research associate, becoming assistant director of the Laboratory Animal Program in 1990 and adjunct assistant professor in 1997. Dr. Suckow joined the University of Notre Dame in 1998 as associate research professor and director of the Freimann Life Sciences Center. Dr. Suckow was the recipient of the Eldon J. Cox Award, the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Young Investigator Award, and the American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners Excellence in Laboratory Animal Research Award.
Research Interests
Dr. Suckow's research interests focus on animal modeling of cancer. In particular, his efforts focus on development of tumor-derived vaccines for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Additional work in his laboratory has examined the genetic basis and pathophysiology of prostate cancer using the Lobund-Wistar rat, a unique animal model of spontaneous, metastasizing prostate cancer.
