Biography

Professor Hinchcliffe received his B.A. degree in chemistry in 1989 from the University of Dayton. He obtained his Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology in 1995 from the University of Minnesota. Subsequently, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow, then at the University of Massachusetts as an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow. He joined the faculty of the University of Notre Dame in 2001. Professor Hinchcliffe is the recipient of the American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award.

Research Interests

Professor Hinchcliffe's laboratory focuses on how eukaryotic cells undergo the process of cell division, in particular cell cycle regulation of centrosome reproduction. His research group has developed an in vitro system based on cytoplasmic extracts made from frog eggs to determine the role played by other cell cycle regulatory pathways in controlling centrosome reproduction. Professor Hinchcliffe is also exploring the role played by the centrosome in controlling the progression of the cell cycle, in assembling a bipolar spindle, and in regulating cytokinesis.
